As the 2024-2025 academic year drew to a close, University of Georgia staff members were recognized at the Spring Staff Appreciation Celebration for all they do to support the institution.
“The University of Georgia’s success is built on the dedication, talent and hard work of our extraordinary staff,” said President Jere W. Morehead. “I am deeply grateful for all that our staff do to advance our mission and contribute to our vibrant campus community.”
The event, held May 12 at Stegeman Coliseum and hosted by the Office of the President in coordination with University Human Resources, included a lunch of Chick-fil-a sandwiches, chips and other treats.
“I enjoyed the fact that we were able to eat lunch on the floor of the coliseum and could use all of the photo booths,” said Wanda Darden, an administrative specialist in the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program.
Three photo booths — one spinning 360 degrees — allowed attendees to capture the moment, including some special photo opportunities with Hairy Dawg and Spike. A DJ played upbeat music while the crowd caught up with one another, and photos of staff were displayed on the jumbotron throughout the event. As they left, staff members were treated to a UGA cooling towel to help beat the heat this summer.

“I like the atmosphere, and it’s a lot of fun,” said Mandy Grizzle, business manager in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s physiology and pharmacology department. “I think it’s very nice that they served us lunch and had a place for us to see our friends from across campus.”
Not only was the celebration fun, but it also provided an important opportunity for staff to connect with colleagues from other schools, colleges, departments and units — something many staff members appreciate.
“I love how open it is and that you’re able to walk around and talk to people you know and people you don’t know,” said Chloe Sirmans, communications specialist in the Office of Government Relations.

Rebecca Mayo, president of the UGA Staff Council and coordinator in the Office of Animal Care and Use in the Office of Research, hopes celebrations like this continue well into the future.
“This event was a huge, multi-unit team effort born from a shared desire to recognize and celebrate the importance of UGA staff,” Mayo said. “The Staff Council looks forward to continuing to collaborate and assist with efforts to express gratitude for the amazing staff at UGA.”
